The indigenous Health Adaptation to Climate Change (IHACC) Program

The Indigenous Health Adaptation to Climate Change (IHACC) program is a community based program working with the Batwa Indigenous population of Kanungu district in Southwestern Uganda under the Urban Action Lab. The program focuses on the health effects of climate change among the Batwa, who were evicted from the Bwindi and Mgahinga forests, now national parks, without any compensation or resettlement plan to enable them to adapt to life outside the forests. A team of researchers investigate Batwa’s adaptation to life outside the forests with a particular emphasis on the climate-food-health nexus including those from the Urban Action Lab.
